Traditional Ruler of NWR Cameroon Embraces Women In Cultural Development Activities PDF Print E-mail

The efforts of WIDCO in the propagation of the “New C0omcept on Women Empowerment” in Cameroon Africa and beyond is yielding positive results as a traditional ruler of the NWR of Cameroon has fully embraced women of his area in the organization and development of cultural and traditional activities in his area.

The Fon (Chief) of Sehn in Ndu Subdivision in which WIDCO launched the new concept on women empowerment in March 2010 opened up his traditional administrative activities by creating a nine-man committee made of five men, three women and one youth to take charge of the organization of annual cultural festivals in his area of jurisdiction. The committee which as from May 2011 works under the supervision of WIDCO is charged with the responsibility to intensify and revive cultural activities in the area to meet the aspirations of the International Council of Organisations for Festivals, Folklore and Folk Arts ( Conseil International Des Organisations Des Festivals Folklore et D’Arts Traditionnels – C.I.O.F.F) with headquarter in Paris and UNESCO.

In another occasion, HRH Fon Nfor Ngange while attending the graduation ceremony of the Communications and Education Coordinator of WIDCO (Nnoko Naome Dibo) at the Cameroon Baptist Theological Seminary (CBTS) Ndu NWR Cameroon invited her to get closer to traditional authorities, tradition and culture of the NWR to identify those aspects of value for promotion and the archaic aspects to advice on how they should be revised without any conflict.

What makes WIDCO different ? PDF Print E-mail
  1. WIDCO is geared towards promoting only civil society organizations in which both men and women operate together meanwhile reserving such leadership positions as President and Treasurer only for women as the principal action in promoting women civil and political leadership or entrepreneurial skills;

  2. WIDCO believes in the existence of God and creation and also that “Woman” was created because of the inability of “man” to survive in an isolated forum and hence that the existence and survival of man is completely compromised in the absence of woman hence the two must be promoted to live together and operate together in the family, civil and political grouping as the only way to lay a firm foundation for social cohesion, conflict reduction and resolution.

  3. WIDCO believes that community development that does not evolve from the foundation of the cultures and traditions of any concerned community is not sustainable and hence that the cultural and traditional potentials of any area must be developed first then used as the bedrock for the development of the said community be that development social, economic or political.
